King's Gardens Maui
While it’s difficult to pass up exploring Maui by helicopter, boat and bike, we highly recommend leaving some time to fully appreciate Maui’s natural beauty by foot.
A newcomer to available hiking, tasting and cultural tours on The Valley Isle, Kings Gardens Maui, “Voted Best Of Maui”, offers visitors and locals the chance to explore the rugged, lesser-seen side of paradise - with a side of chocolate - on the jungle-laden north shore, all set in a one of a kind lush tropical rainforest that features the world’s Largest Prehistoric Dinosaur Ferns & The ancient gardens Of The King! We Say It’s A Must Do While On Maui! photos by Natalie Brown
Situated on private tropical estate just off of our famous Hana Highway, proceeds from this tour go directly toward their efforts in restoring and preserving these sacred Royal heritage gardens. A former farming area, wet taro varieties once flourished here due to the area’s ample rain and rich volcanic soil, additionally aided by the flowing freshwater from the property’s nearby waterfall.
Their goal is to raise funds needed in order to put these sacred royal Hawaiian heritage gardens into conservation and preservation, as this is deemed by a Hawaii State Archeologist to be one of Maui’s priceless historical treasures. You’ll get to see this amazing location before it’s fully restored.
With multiple daily tour offerings, guests will be guided along the private estate’s untouched trails by an experienced local guide eager to share fascinating information about the area’s cultural, historical and natural significance.
Take in views of the area’s lush tropical landscape, including towering 100 foot ancient Hawaiian rainforest trees, the ancient cave of Mo’o Kana the mythological Lizard God, and be treated to an overlook of the property’s year round flowing waterfall in a private, serene setting, worlds away from the crowded stops along the nearby Road to Hana.
Smell and learn about the ancient practices of kava, the health benefits of chocolate & ginger as well as an array of lovely tropical flowers. You’ll also be treated to one of the very first waterfalls on the way to Hana as it is only 30 mins from the Airport. Perfect for those who want a taste of old Hawaii & Hana without the long drive.
Guests should expect what you would when you go on a tropical hike - this is the rainforest, after all - and come prepared to experience the more authentic, island-style side of Maui on this laid-back, local tour option.
Additionally, if you sign up for the Kings Gardens Maui Chocolate tour, enjoy special chocolate tasting(s), including several varieties from around the world. Learn about how cacao goes from pods on a tree to the sweet treat renowned the world over!
