The New Year has arrived, and we have plenty of exciting events to keep you entertained this month on Maui! From delicious Chef’s Table dinner events to performances from groups like UB40 and Judy Collins, as well as festivals, surf retreats, painting parties and more, there’s lots to keep your calendar as full as you want it.

Maui Chef’s Table – Come experience the Maui Chef’s Table culinary adventure on the grounds of Maui Tropical Plantation! Every Third Tuesday (January 17th):

Brushstrokes & Brews – On the third Tuesday of each month, Island Art Party brings its fun painting classes to The Maui Brewing Co. in Kihei. Come create a beautiful painting, and enjoy happy hour pricing in the tasting room all night! Only $59 (kama’aina discount available with ID) and it sells out quick, so book early. Ages 16+ only.

Bill Maher’s New Year’s All Star Evening: Bill Maher returns for his 6th annual New Year’s Day show at the MACC’s Castle Theater, and this year he’s bringing more friends – Margaret Cho and special guest Dana Gould.

Straight No Chaser – I’ll Have Another… World Tour: In celebration of the group‘s 20th anniversary, this male a cappella group succeeds in making extraordinary music that moves people in a fundamental sense, and with a sense of humor. Catch them at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

Wailuku First Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family fun entertainment on Wailuku’s historic Market Street.

Rita Rudner: A house-filling favorite in Las Vegas since she opened as one of the hottest tickets in town in June 2000, Rita Rudner is known for her epigrammatic one-liners. Performing at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater.

January 11th

Frank Vignola with Vinny Raniolo: Lazar Bear is proud to present Frank Vignola, one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing today, along with Vinny Raniolo. Performing at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater.

January 13th

Lahaina Second Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Lahaina’s famous Front Street.

“Her Bodies of Stories” by Lyz SotoHer Bodies of Stories is a new spoken art work exploring themes of diaspora, colonialism, settler colonialism, hopeful decolonization, and growing up in Hawaii. Showing at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater.

January 14th

Young the Giant: LA quintet Young the Giant continues to brave new sonic landscapes with their wildly adventurous third album, Home of the Strange. On this new release, the band explores their expansive musicianship with boldly eclectic arrangements anchored by a keen melodic presence.

January 15th

Rakuhaku Workshop with Akihiko Izukura: From 10am to 2pm, artist Akihiko Izukura will demonstrate spinning, dyeing, and weaving on a hand loom at the Schaefer International Gallery. Participants will learn the processes of pulling, dyeing, and forming silk to create a unique take-away piece.

Judy’s Gang in “One Word”: Have you ever put your thoughts into one word? That’s what the song titles do in the latest Judy Ridolfino production, “One Word,” featuring all the dancers in Judy’s Gang. Performing at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Run for Peace: Please come and join on this special day and run for 2 miles for peace. Friends and family welcome. Departing from Kepaniwai Park in Iao Valley and ending at Wailuku’s County Building.

Black Arm Band presents “Dirtsong”: Black Arm Band exists to use music as a vehicle for social change. They develop, perform, promote, educate and celebrate contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music and culture at the highest standard in a wide variety of performance and community contexts.

January 20th

Makawao Third Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Makawao’s Baldwin Avenue.

UB40 Reunited: The original members of UB40 – Ali Campbell, Astro, and Mickey Virtue – return to the MACC’s A&B Ampitheater for an inspired mix of freshly minted new songs and sparkling, reggae-fied cover versions of classics by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Chi-Lites and others.

Broadway Pops: The annual Broadway Pops welcomes back Doug LaBrecque and new Maui Pops Orchestra guest artist, Christiane Noll. The program includes favorites from the Great American Songbook, including works by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, and more.

January 26th

Garrick Ohlsson: Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, pianist Garrick Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Performing at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

January 27th

Kihei Fourth Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment at Kihei’s Azeka Shopping Center.

Judy Collins: Lazar Bear presents singer-songwriter and folk music icon, Judy Collins, with special guest, Ari Hest. Judy is touring in support of her latest release, “Strangers Again,” a collection of duets with some of her favorite male artists, including Don Mclean, Michael McDonald, Jeff Bridges, Willie Nelson, and Jackson Browne.

January 28th

Chad Takatsugi: Chad Takatsugi, multiple Na Hoku Hanohano award winner with his debut solo album, Ahuwale, continues his legacy as an accomplished composer, musician, and leo of Hawaiian music. Performing at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater.
