Brushstrokes & Brews – On the third Tuesday of each month, Island Art Party brings its fun painting classes to The Maui Brewing Co. in Kihei. Come create a beautiful painting and enjoy happy hour pricing in the tasting room all night! Only $59 (kama’aina discount available with ID) and it sells out quick, so book early!
Wailuku First Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family fun entertainment on Wailuku’s historic Market Street.
Lahaina Hongwanji Mission Obon Festival: Head to the west side to see a special Obon service at 6pm, followed by a dance performance at 7:30pm.
MAPA Live Presents Jekyll & Hyde the Musical: An evocative love story, Jekyll & Hyde takes us on a chilling journey deep into the repressing mores of Victorian England and its underbelly of unleashed passions and sensuality. *Also playing August 6-7, 12-14
Family Class at Island Art Party: Celebrate the weekend with a family class at Kihei’s Island Art Party. Ages 8 and up are welcome to join in a painting of a ‘Beach Bonfire’. Kama’aina discount available with a local ID.
Volunteering Opportunity in Haleakala Crater: Enthusiastic and fit hikers are sought for a free service trip with the Friends of Haleakala National Park in Haleakala Crater, August 6-8. Volunteers stay at Holua Cabin Saturday and Sunday night, hiking out Monday. The group will perform tasks ranging from cabin maintenance and native planting to invasive species removal.
Family Day at the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center: Come partake in a free, family-friendly celebration that marks the opening of the Hui’s Youth Art Exhibition 2016. Don’t miss the scavenger hunt (1st 50 people only), live glassblowing demonstrations, hands-on artists workshops, face painting, food trucks, and more from 10am to 2pm.
Huliau Food & Film Festival: This 4th annual Festival is a farm-to-table celebration of local agriculture, featuring local chefs and student-produced films, as well as live music, aerial silk performances, silent auction, food-themed student film contest and a cash bar of 100% locally-produced cocktails, beer and wine. Event is from 5:30pm to 9pm, and 21+ only. Funds raised benefit environmental education programs for Maui youth.
Solo Sessions – Lisa Loeb: Head to the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater to see a live performance from savvy, Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Lisa Loeb. Hits include “Stay (I Missed You)”, “I Do,” “Nine Stories – Do You Sleep?” and more.
Silversun Pickups at the MACC: Among the most dynamic and creative rock bands of the modern era, come see the Silversun Pickups perform at Yokouchi Pavilion at the MACC at 8pm.
Lahaina Second Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Lahaina’s famous Front Street.
SEED TO CUP COFFEE FESTIVAL AT MAUI TROPICAL PLANTATION
The Maui Coffee Association will present their 9th Annual Seed to Cup Coffee Festival, August 13th, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 3 PM at the beautiful Maui Tropical Plantation in Wailuku. This event is FREE and open to the public! In the 2016 Hawaii Statewide Cupping Competition, Maui placed 3 coffees in the overall Top 12, and Maui entries had the highest average score of any of the 8 Hawaiian Coffee Districts! Come see what all the buzz is about!
Surfrider Maui ‘Ocean Heroes Awards’ Benefit: Join Surfrider Maui at beautiful upcountry Lumeria Maui for a very special evening featuring catered reception, silent auction, environmental awards ceremony and intimate musical performance by local favorite, Kanekoa.
Hawaii International Music Festival: Located at the MACC, this festival combines the finest classical music with Hawaiian culture, featuring performances by Silberger and Shoremount-Obra, along with soprano Mikayla Sager, cellist Daniel Lelchuk, and pianists Ian Parker and Carlin Ma. They’ll share undiscovered gems by Shostakovich, Piazzolla, Kodály, Rachmaninoff, Bachelet, Mozart, and more.
Hawaii Farmers Union United Community Potluck: Bring a potluck dish that feeds 7-8 folks or purchase a meal at this community event, featuring Chef Barry King of Oceanside Restaurant, information about Ultra Low Cost Organic Farming and more.
Makawao Third Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Makawao’s Baldwin Avenue.
Maui Calls – Celebrating Vintage Hawaiian Fashion: Maui’s annual Premier Food & Wine Event, located at the MACC, features a fresh flower lei greeting and Hawaiian music serenade while you mix, mingle, and taste delectable pupus created by chefs from stellar Maui restaurants, as well as premium wines served by vintners from boutique wineries around the world.
Kahului Jodo Mission Obon Festival: Head to central Maui to see a special Obon service at 6:30pm, followed by a dance performance at 7:30pm.
3rd Annual Xterra Adventure Fest Maui: Features 3 courses – the Duke’s Beach House XTERRA 10K, the Hula Grill XTERRA 5K, and the Kimo’s Keiki XTERRA K. The 10K course will be the same trails used a day later by the world’s greatest off-road triathletes in the XTERRA World Championship.
Paia Rinzai Zen Mission Obon Festival: Head to north Maui to see a special Obon service at 6pm, followed by a dance performance at 7pm.
Thompson Square at the Castle Theater: American country music duo composed of husband and wife, Keifer and Shawna Thompson. The duo has released two albums, which have produced a combined ten chart singles on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.
Kihei Fourth Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment at Kihei’s Azeka Shopping Center.
21st Annual Maui Wedding Expo: Held at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, this is the perfect place to plan your dream wedding and meet with Maui’s top wedding professionals. Entertainment, photographers, wedding planners, caterers, and much more will be onsite, and there will be door prizes for attendees.
Gary Paul Nabhan in the Green Room: The Merwin Conservancy proudly presents an evening with Gary Paul Nabhan, an internationally celebrated nature writer, seed saver, ethnobotanist, and sustainable agriculture activist who is considered a pioneer of the “local food movement.”
