As summer heats up and people from all over the world flock to Maui’s impeccably lovely shores for a well-deserved tropical getaway, we’re happy to share that there’s plenty of island-style happenings to look forward to, like concerts, comedy shows, and more. Wishing you all a fun and adventure-filled Maui experience.

What’s Happening on Maui for July 2023?

Live music is still happening around the island, with local musicians jamming almost every night at some of the island’s best restaurants. Check out Mana’o Radio’s Music2Nite site for a full lineup of Live Music on Maui.

Makawao Rodeo and Stampede: The Makawao Rodeo and Stampede usually takes place at Oskie Rice arena on July 4th weekend. Festivities include the coveted bull bash, lots of delicious local food, entertainment, and other rodeo competitions. This is a great way to celebrate 4th of July and Paniolo culture! Event details and dates are forthcoming, so stay tuned!

July 1 

Lanai Pineapple Festival: Did you know Lanai once produced 75% of the world’s pineapples? While the last pineapple harvest on Lanai was over 30 years ago, the island still honors its roots every 4th of July weekend with the Lanai Pineapple Festival in Dole Park. Enjoy homegrown entertainment, ono food, and lots of pineapple! 12 pm to 9 pm. Book your late night ferry tickets before they sell out. 

July 4 

4th of July on Front Street: Where to find the best firework show on 4th of July? Front Street in Lahaina! Watch a spectacular fireworks display erupt over the ocean in Lahaina. Front Street will be closed to traffic from 6:30-8:30 pm for optimal viewing. Get there early with your beach chairs to get a good spot.

July 7 

Something Rotten: Want to support local theater while on Maui? Get your tickets to Something Rotten by Maui Onstage at the historic Iao Theater in Wailuku. Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self.

July 8 

Johnny Suite: Johnny Suite is an island reggae singer/songwriter from Mililani, Hawaii. His debut EP, Keep it Movin’, was nominated for a 2020 Island Music Award and continues to get heavy radio play in Hawaii. Don’t miss his performance at DaPlayground in Maalaea! 8:00 pm, 21+.

July 11 

Young Artmakers 2023: If you have artistic keiki, make sure to sign them up for Young Artmakers 2023 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. This summer kids program gives keiki the opportunity to be artistic while making new friends! They’ll explore mediums like drawing, painting, linocut and more. July 13 

Comedian Joe Sib: Joe Sib released his first comedy record in April 2017 which debuted #3 on the Billboard’s Comedy Chart and has continued his epic comedic ascent ever since. From the 1980s punk scene to millennium parent, Joe’s comedy takes you on a manic ride. Don’t miss his side splitting performance at DaPlayground in Maalaea.

July 27 

ILIZA: Hard Feelings Tour: Iliza Shlesinger is an award-winning comedian, actor, writer, producer and author. Iliza is known for coining the term “Elder Millennial” and for her comedy specials are Unveiled (2019), Confirmed Kills (2016), Freezing Hot (2015) and War Paint (2013). Now Iliza is bringing her relatable comedy to the MACC’s Castle Theater stage.

Mondays

Lei Po’o Making: The Shops of Wailea invites guests to learn how to weave ti leaf leis using ferns and flowers. Lei Po’o can be worn on the head and was typically used as a gift on special occasions by Ali’i (Hawaiian Royalty). This event is open to both keiki and adults and runs from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

Tuesdays

Tuesday Trivia at Mahalo Aleworks: Head to Upcountry’s only brewery to test your trivia skills. Be sure to make it by 5:45 pm to register, trivia kicks off at 6 pm. Teams can be no larger than four. The winning team is awarded a $50 brewery gift card!

Polynesian Show at The Shops: This weekly show will highlight Hawaiian hula as well as other dances of Polynesia. The performance will take place at the Shops of Wailea from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Coconut Husking at The Shops: From 2:30 to 3:30 pm weekly, the Shops of Wailea will be hosting demonstrations of the traditional and modern methods in husking a coconut. Learn how the Hawaiians would use every part of the coconut from food to crafting eating utensils, jewelry as well as furniture.

Wednesdays

Slack Key Guitar Show: The Masters of Hawaiian Music Slack Key Show is open for live shows once again. The Slack Key Show ohana will perform each week at 6:30 pm at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. Tickets are required for entry, this show is also streamed online.

Thursdays

Polynesian Show at the Shops: This weekly show will highlight Hawaiian hula as well as other dances of Polynesia. The performance will take place at the Shops of Wailea from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Coconut Frond Weaving at the Shops: The Shops of Wailea invites guests to try their hand at the highly developed Hawaiian skill of weaving. Coconut frond weaving was used to make baskets, mats, and even toys. This event runs weekly from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Fridays

Papa Hula at the Shops: Hosted at the Shops of Wailea, Papa Hula is a celebration of the Hawaiian way of life. Enjoy a complimentary dance lesson, complete with costumes and accessories, and the dance movements and their meanings. This interactive performance runs from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Saturdays

Upcountry Farmers Market: Shop some of the best local souvenirs on the island, indulge in delicious food and support local farmers at one of Maui’s biggest weekly events. Don’t forget to set your morning alarm, as this market favors the early shopper. The Upcountry Farmers Market runs from 7:00 to 11:00 am every Saturday at the Kulamalu Town Center in Pukalani.

Sundays

Maui Gift and Craft Fair: Stop by the Lahaina Gateway Center and browse West Maui’s largest gift and craft fair. This weekly event hosts over 50 vendors, showcasing jewelry, photography, art, crafts, keiki activities, and more. Maui Gift and Craft Fair runs from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm every Sunday.

Maui Sunday Market: Featuring some of Maui’s most renowned food trucks, local vendors, and quality entertainment, the Maui Sunday Market is one of the island’s most popular weekly events. Centrally located at the Kahului Shopping Center, the Maui Sunday Market draws locals and visitors from all corners of the island. The event runs every Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Family Class at Island Art Party: That’s right, Island Art Party is back in action! Maui’s most fun, family-friendly art class is once again accepting bookings. Sundays are reserved for Family Class, where ages 8 and up are welcome. From mermaid to sunset scenes and more, select the masterpiece you want to create and bring home your own artwork!

  1. I listen to Harry Troupe and Missy Aguilar Friday afternoons at the Kaanapali Shores. Not sure why, but there is not much publicity about them. Missy performed with Journey in Diego and Harry is one of the best guitarists on Maui. Free live music during happy hour (2 to 5pm) but cash for the tip jar is highly recommended.
