Ulalena is Maui's biggest and best show. Blending ancient Hawaiian lore and song with instruments from around the world. The show is performed at Maui Theatre, specifically built for this show.

The show begins with Hawaiian chant and the dance of a taro plant from the earth. From here the show moves through the history of Polynesian travelers first arriving in Hawaii and then growing with it. Through celebrating the harvest, to the false arrival of their God Lono, Maui moves through changes caused by the introduction of foreign influences and finally to Peles devastating final eruption. The rich history of Maui is explored with dance, song, and chant as the cast uses elaborate costumes to explain the myths and legends of Hawaiian past.

Some of the major highlights are the acrobatic dancers. One swings from the sky over the undulating ocean as Hina the moon goddess and another slides up and down a massive waterfall as Mo'o the lizard god. The eruption of Pele, the Goddess of the Volcanoes is a magnificent performance that overwhelmingly affects all the audience.
