Well well well… it seems Maui’s festival season has arrived! With a plentiful menu of events such as the Maui Agricultural Festival, Maui County Carnival, Chinese Kite Festival, Haiku Flower Festival, East Maui Taro Festival and more all happening this month, we suggest breaking in your festival slippahs and hitting the ATM. Maui Events April 2017

Select Friday & Saturday Evenings (April 8th, 15th, 21st & 29th):

Maui Chef’s Table – Come experience the Maui Chef’s Table culinary adventure on the grounds of Maui Tropical Plantation! Enjoy 7 courses of unique, farm-fresh cuisine and craft cocktails, all prepared in a gorgeous island setting. Please check their calendar for dates and tickets. $150 per person, including tax and gratuity.

Every Third Tuesday (April 18th):

Brushstrokes & Brews – On the third Tuesday of each month, Island Art Party brings its fun painting classes to The Maui Brewing Co. in Kihei. Come create a beautiful painting, and enjoy happy hour pricing in the tasting room all night! Only $59 (kama’aina discount available with ID) and it sells out quick, so book early. Ages 16+ only.

April 1st

Maui County Agricultural Festival: Located at Maui Tropical Plantation, the 10th Annual Maui County Agricultural Festival is Maui’s prime event to raise awareness about Maui ag. Event is from 9:30am to 4pm, and tickets are $5 for adults, free for seniors and keiki (not including separate tickets to the Grand Taste or Legacy Farmers Pancake Breakfast).

Family Class at Island Art Party: From 2pm to 4:30pm, reserve a spot in Kihei’s family-friendly painting class. Painting ‘Coral Gardens,’ this class is open for ages 8 and up.

“Three Decembers” with Frederica von Stade: Composed by Jack Heggie (Moby Dick), “Three Decembers” is based on a play by Terrence McNally about Broadway star, Madeline Mitchell, as she enters the twilight of her career and life. Located at the MACC.

Prince Kuhio Day Celebration: Held in Wailuku from 9am to 4:30pm, come to enjoy a full day of entertainment, including crafts, food, farmers market, Makahiki games, kalo cookoff, an oratory contest, community information booths, and a procession of Hawaiian societies and homestead leaders.

Maui OnStage Annual Sneak Peek Extravaganza: Located at the Aloha Aku Inn in Kihei, join Maui OnStage for a special dinner, cocktails and performance. Tickets are $150 per person.

April 3rd

Maui High School Spring Band: The public is invited to attend and support Maui’s hard-working young performing artists at a free concert at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

April 4th

King Kekaulike High School Band: The public is invited to attend and support Maui’s hard-working young performing artists at a free concert at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

April 6th

Maui County Carnival: Located at Wailuku Memorial Center, the annual Maui County Carnival is back in action! Held from April 6th to the 9th, head here for family-friendly rides, games, entertainment, ono grinds and more.

April 7th

Wailuku First Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family fun entertainment on Wailuku’s historic Market Street.

Maui County Carnival: Located at Wailuku Memorial Center, the annual Maui County Carnival is back in action! Held from April 6th to the 9th, head here for family-friendly rides, games, entertainment, ono grinds and more.

Sacred Hearts School Bazaar: Great local food, live entertainment with amazing headliners, hot malasadas, craft vendors, huge slides, preschool keiki zone, plants for sale, laser tag and paint ball, carnival game booths with prizes, petting farm, face painting and airbrush tattoos, shave ice and much, much more. Located at Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina from 4pm to 10pm.

Colbie Caillat: Honored with two Grammy Awards, selling over 20 million singles worldwide and garnering over 300 million YouTube views, Colbie Caillat performs at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

Hope Jahren in the Green Room: The Merwin Conservancy presents Hope Jahren, an award-winning scientist and author of Lab Girl, a national bestselling memoir, in the latest installment of the Green Room, a literary and environmental salon and speaker series.

Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute Annual Kaiola Gala: The evening will include a three-course dinner, live entertainment and special keynote speaker, Kimi Werner. Meet the team of dedicated individuals who have laid the foundation for the non-profit with a goal of establishing an island-wide rescue, rehabilitation and release program for injured sea turtles.

The Songs of C&K: Celebrating good times together and “a lifetime party of friends,” recent Grammy Museum inductee, Henry Kapono, brings his Songs of C&K to the MACC!

William Singe: An Australian singer, songwriter, and producer, William Singe is most noted for his online videos that receive hundreds of millions of YouTube and Facebook views. See him live at the MACC.

April 14th

Lahaina Second Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Lahaina’s famous Front Street.

Chinese Kite Festival: Head to Lahaina to celebrate the Chinese Kite Festival! Presentations will be made by Dr. Busaba Yip on Ancient Chinese Kites, and by George Peters on Modern Kite Flying at 2pm and again at 6pm. From 3pm to 8pm, festival-goers are encouraged to help complete the giant Chinese serpent kite.

Release the Hounds – An Evening with Julian Lage & Chris Eldridge I Aoife O’Donovan: A night of intrepid songwriting and acoustic innovation, beginning with Aoife O’Donovan at center stage. O’Donovan draws from her catalogue of songs, played as she wrote them; with just her acoustic guitar and voice.

Lonestar: Known for merging their country roots with strong melodies and rich vocals, Lonestar is comprised of Richie McDonald (lead vocals), Michael Britt (lead guitar & backing vocals), Keech Rainwater (drums), and Dean Sams (keyboards & backing vocals).

April 15th

Chinese Kite Festival: Take the family out for Kite Flying Day on Lahaina Cannery Mall’s south lawn at the intersection of Honoapi‘ilani Hwy. 30 and Keawe Street. From 9am to 11am, kids can try their hands at designing and making a kite as instructed by Kite Artist, George Peters.

Nervous Laughter – A Big Wave Documentary: A documentary that follows the lives of pro surfers Albee Layer, Kai Lenny, Billy Kemper, Dege O’Conell, & Torrey Meister.

David Bromberg Band: David Bromberg – godfather of Americana, decorated multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, gifted song interpreter and lauded bandmate to the stars with his David Bromberg Quintet will be playing at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater.

April 21st

Makawao Third Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment on Makawao’s Baldwin Avenue.

Starry Night Cinema – Sing: Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents another Starry Night Cinema event! Bring a low-back beach chair and/or a blanket and spread out on the lawn for a special screening of “SING!” Gates open at 6pm, movie starts at 7:30pm. Go early!

April 22nd

29th Annual Pundy Yokouchi Memorial Golf Tournament: Join the 29th Annual Pundy Yokouchi Memorial Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the MACC’s many arts and education programs that impact the Maui community.

24th Annual Haiku Ho’olaule’a & Flower Festival: Benefiting Haiku Elementary School, Haiku Community Association and Boys & Girls Club Maui, this free event includes live entertainment, artisan marketplace, culinary delights, the famous Haiku Bake Sale, silent auctions, floral design and lei making contests, Haiku historical display, Book swap, Growers Market, and much more.

Kalama Intermediate School Band: The public is invited to attend and support Maui’s hard-working young performing artists at a free concert at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

April 28th

Kihei Fourth Friday: Live music, ono grinds, shopping and family-fun entertainment at Kihei’s Azeka Shopping Center.

April 29th

25th Annual East Maui Taro Festival: Head to the Hana Ballpark for a day of learning and celebration! The 25th Annual East Maui Taro Festival will feature an exceptional Farmers’ Market, poi pounding demonstrations, arts and crafts, food booths, non-profit organizations sharing information, as well as beautiful Hawaiian music and hula.

Ha’upu – A Hawaiian Musical: Students from Kamehameha Schools–Hawai’i Campus will showcase their talents in fine art, Hawaiian language, chant, solo and choral singing, dance, instrumental performance, and drama with a presentation of the Hawaiian language opera, “Hā‘upu,” in the Castle Theater.

“Sing to Me” A Salute to Women Composers: Join artistic director Gary Leavitt and pianist Lotus Dancer,  lusciously surrounded by a large chorus of men & women singing music from throughout the ages, all composed by women. Show at 7:30pm.
